Happy Birthday My Mo Man XXXXXX
Note: This should have been uploaded on 8th August 2015..... hey ho......
Happy 2nd birthday my Mo Bot. I am sorry the official hurrah has taken me 3 weeks but we have been having too much fun (read: chaos) at home! Maurice Samuel Haines you are a complete joy. A quiet, strong man who loves a cuddle more than any person I have ever met. You and your Goose are a team to be reckoned with and we love you so beautiful boy........

Take a Deep Breath
Anyone who has, or has had a 2 or 3 year old will know what I'm talking about. I have had a really challenging few weeks with Lenny. A cocktail of pushing boundaries, a will of iron, a sudden boost in vocabulary and a slightly chaotic few weeks of moving and up rooting has made for some testing parenting. We have had rather too many temper tantrums, stamping of feet, growling in my face.... you get the picture.... I am a huge fan of the Time Out Step when it comes to discipline. He responds very well to being removed from a situation to calm down on a step but lately this has been failing me. My temper has been raging. I am knackered and very short tempered which is both ineffective and setting a very wrong example. I lash out right back at him and a little tussle often ends a full blown stand off. In truth, it is hard to tell who has been acting more like the toddler. A week ago I had a strong word with myself and vowed to try to be more calm, supportive and generally a better Mum - I say try as obviously there have been a few occasions where my innermost zen has failed me!! However, Lenny's behaviour as a result of this change in my reactions has made a drastic change for the better. He too is much more serene. The house is much more harmonious and everyone is much happier. Having spoken to a few friends with similar aged children I was lent a book called The Parents Tao Te Ching - it is a dip in, dip out collection of advice on raising smalls. It will not be everyone's cup of tea but I have found some bits really helpful as a reminder of what is important when parenting. Here is a taster....

Growing a Garden
Dealing with difficult children
is like watching a garden grow.
Resist the temptation
to pull up the plants
to check on the roots.
In difficult times
children may thrive on conflict.
If you take the bait
the battle rages.
Instead step back,
breath deeply,
relax,
and stay at your centre.
Battle requires two parties.
One fighting alone soon tires.

Ta Dah!

OK, so this is mega cheesy. However, every now and then I like to indulge in a bit of fromage- I came across these 15 Small Steps to Happiness on one of my favourite tumblr's Moon and Trees but she got it off another who got it off another who got it off another so who know where it began.... I suppose it matters not I think they ring rather true.

- 1. Push yourself to get up before the rest of the world - start with 7am, then 6am, then 5:30am. go to the nearest hill with a big coat and a scarf and watch the sun rise.
2. Push yourself to fall asleep earlier - start with 11pm, then 10pm, then 9pm. wake up in the morning feeling re-energized and comfortable.
3. Erase processed food from your diet. start with no lollies, chips, biscuits, then erase pasta, rice, cereal, then bread. use the rule that if a child couldn’t identify what was in it, you don’t eat it.
4. Get into the habit of cooking yourself a beautiful breakfast. fry tomatoes and mushrooms in real butter and garlic, fry an egg, slice up a fresh avocado and squirt way too much lemon on it. sit and eat it and do nothing else.
5. Stretch. start by reaching for the sky as hard as you can, then trying to touch your toes. roll your head. stretch your fingers. stretch everything.
6. Buy a 1L water bottle. start with pushing yourself to drink the whole thing in a day, then try drinking it twice.
7. Buy a beautiful diary and a beautiful black pen. write down everything you do, including dinner dates, appointments, assignments, coffees, what you need to do that day. no detail is too small.
8. Strip your bed of your sheets and empty your underwear draw into the washing machine. put a massive scoop of scented fabric softener in there and wash. make your bed in full.
9. Organise your room. fold all your clothes (and bag what you don’t want), clean your mirror, your laptop, vacuum the floor. light a beautiful candle.
10. Have a luxurious shower with your favourite music playing. wash your hair, scrub your body, brush your teeth. lather your whole body in moisturiser, get familiar with the part between your toes, your inner thighs, the back of your neck.
11. Push yourself to go for a walk. take your headphones, go to the beach and walk. smile at strangers walking the other way and be surprised how many smile back. bring your dog and observe the dog’s behaviour. realise you can learn from your dog.
12. Message old friends with personal jokes. reminisce. suggest a catch up soon, even if you don’t follow through. push yourself to follow through.
13. Think long and hard about what interests you. crime? sex? boarding school? long-forgotten romance etiquette? find a book about it and read it. there is a book about literally everything.
14. Become the person you would ideally fall in love with. let cars merge into your lane when driving. pay double for parking tickets and leave a second one in the machine. stick your tongue out at babies. compliment people on their cute clothes. challenge yourself to not ridicule anyone for a whole day. then two. then a week. walk with a straight posture. look people in the eye. ask people about their story. talk to acquaintances so they become friends.
15. Lie in the sunshine. daydream about the life you would lead if failure wasn’t a thing. open your eyes. take small steps to make it happen for you.

And breathe.......
Wow life is busy at the mo. Actually really great but just very busy. I know there are cobwebs growing thick on the blog but I am finding it hard to find any spare time. Ru has a new job starting in 3 weeks and so he is tying up ends at work meaning he is away quite a lot so I am juggling balls - the hectic everyday needs of a toddler and a baby, a house sale, a house purchase and the blog. I am spinning! But, fingers firmly crossed, things will be moving on with the new house and life can slow down a bit.... that is until we start renovating it and then who knows..... valium?! So, no apologies more of a explanation for lack of Lentil and the Mint love.....

Happy Mothers Day
Today is all about us mummy's. It's a tough job being a mum and today is about saying thank you and I love you. I know I do not say it enough - so thank you Mum, I feel very lucky indeed to have you. It is also about giving yourself a well deserved pat on the back. Well done you. Forget that supermarket tantrum, huge pile of washing, crayon scribble on the wall and hug your babies close today - you are doing a great job, just look at them......

Summer Loving
I am sorry to be moaning Myrtle but really I. AM. FED. UP. I have a streaming cold and so much gunk in head I feel like I might explode and this weather is really getting me down. I am usually an eternal optimist but even I am failing to see the light at the end of this rainy tunnel. The blog has had crickets singing on it lately as I am so lacking in energy and inspiration. True, many many people have it MUCH worse - this flooding is terrible and I am so sorry if you find yourself in that boat.... oh dear, an unintentional and highly inappropriate pun. Forgive me, if we don't laugh we...... Anyway, to try and spark some enthusiasm and inspiration I have hit pinterest and looked at pictures of summer and sunny, happy days and I feel a world cheerier. So here you go...... not long now!

Hands OFF my DVD's.
Friday's here. At last. Tonight is all about pj's, slippers, chow mein, peanut m+m's, a blanket, the sofa and one of my treasured DVD's.
One of my biggest bugbears is lending people DVD's. You NEVER get them back. So I have decided to NEVER lend any of mine again. So, if you ask if you can borrow one and I politely but firmly refuse you can go ahead and think I am a controlling freak. But I will be the controlling freak with all the films I love to watch over and over and over again to hand so nur nur ne nur nur......
My taste in movies is as far from high brow as you can get. I like beautiful films and don't really care if the script is dodgy, the historical content wholly inaccurate or the plot slushy and sentimental. If they are a feast for the eyes I am happy. This post will upset movie boffins as I am well aware my choices of go to films are decidedly uncool but you know what? I dont care. (Wow, I am in a contrary mood today) These are my DVD delights (can you name them all?)
