Snapshots

Life is back to normal. Well almost. Rupert has started his new job so is in London while he gets settled before he returns to working from home and in Plymouth so it's just me and the boys here. I'm knackered! This afternoon was all about a slug-out under a blanket watching Monsters University (it is amazing if you haven't seen it) We needed to recharge after spending our time painting, cooking, playing endless games of hide and seek and heading outside to bank some vitamin D on various walks, to Hestercombe and in the garden.

In other news the house sale and purchase are still going forward. However, a snail on ketamine would move faster. Fingers crossed we see some concrete advancement soon because the longer it takes the more time I am finding to fill my head with expanded and elaborate decoration schemes. Eeeeeek.

Standard solo supper when Ru not here, cheats chopsticks and all! I miss very little about living in a city but Dim Sum is a big one. We do not have any good asian takeaways for miles and miles and even the few we do have don't serve dim sum so thank goodness for Waitrose!

Pound shop beauty - seems sad to let Lenny destroy it really!

Baby Potatoes with Asparagus and Caper Dressing

Capers are my new love. Can't get enough of 'em. This salad is delicious and perfect for summer - serve it with a barbied lamb steak for a match made in heaven or for a more instant hit try smoked mackerel. Or, like me, make it the main event with a nice crisp chablis.... mmmmwwwarrrrrr.....

The recipe is taken from What Katie Ate.

Ingredients
10 small/medium sized baby potatoes
1 tsp fine salt
1 large bunch thin asparagus (about 10 spears), woody ends removed, spears cut into 3/4″ pieces
Handful of watercress leaves, washed and torn

Caper Dressing
6 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/4 c salted capers, rinsed and finely chopped
Handful of dill fronds, chopped
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper

Half-fill a large saucepan with cold water and add potatoes and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium and simmer for 20 minutes or until the potatoes are just cooked through. Drain and leave to cool completely before cutting into halves or quarters (depending on their size – you want bite sized pieces).

Meanwhile, half fill a medium sized saucepan with water, bring to a boil and add the asparagus. Cook for 2-3 minutes, then drain and plunge into a bowl of iced water.

To make the dressing, whisk all the ingredients together in a small bowl and season with salt and pepper.

Place the potatoes and asparagus in a large bowl, then coat with half the dressing. Turn out onto a large, flat serving platter. Dress with the torn watercress leaves, drizzle with the remaining dressing and serve.

Snapshots

Last/ this week has been full of trips and fun. Ru still at home and so the long (2 week) weekend continues! The animals at Bristol Zoo had the boys amazed - particularly watching the seals swimming under water - I thought the gorillas would have been the hit but you never can tell, you never can tell..... we also took advantage of the sun at the beach and made sand castles while Daddy surfed, had hot dogs on the barbie, went to friends for a wine fuelled lunch, had Sunday pizza, cooked pancakes..... wow, time for some soup, salad and mineral water! Rupert now has the boys in London to meet their new cousin so I have a 2 day date with my bed, book and chick flicks galore - cannot WAIT!!!
I see you......

Foolproof Playdough Recipe

Sometimes the oldies are the goodies. This playdough recipe is not only completely foolproof it is my longest lasting toddler activity by a long shot! If you need at least half an hour to drink that tea and catch your breath whip some of this up and take a pew. If you don't have any playdough toys forks, cookie cutters, rolling pins will work or there are lots of 2nd hand bundles on ebay that are well worth the investment.

PLAYDOUGH RECIPE

2 mugs of plain flour

1 mug salt

2 tablespoons of oil

2 mugs of water

4 teaspoons of cream of tartar

food colouring

1. Put all the ingredients into a saucepan.
2. Cook on a low heat stirring all the time.
3. When the dough has formed place on a plate to cool,
4. Store in an air tight container.

guess who made him?!

Mo Bot cannot resist eating the pink goo so the rolling pin sufficed!
