Kiddy Chaos
"In my day we never had any of these toys. We were happy with a stick, a cardboard box and our imaginations……."
This is a phrase ringing around the houses of many I am sure - my grandparents grandparents grandparents said it to their grandchildren and their grandparents grandparents grandparents grandparents said it to their grandchildren….. Lenny and Maurice will NEVER be able to say this… EVER!
Don't get me wrong I am totally pro imaginative play and creating toys and games using free objects but there comes a time when a tub of Duplo or a box of cars comes in very handy indeed….. when the 8th load of washing needs hanging up or the fish fingers need turning etc…
However, my finely thought out open plan sitting room is looking like a franchise of Toys R Us - not the look I was going for! So this week I am pining over some cool new toy storage to restore some order and style….. here are some beauties…..

Snapshots - Sunny Cornwall.....
I haven't taken many shots this week. We have been quite tired - I think the broken nights have caught up with us a bit so all the boring day to day stuff has been a challenge and I feel like I have been chasing my tail constantly! So the weeks pics would have been of shopping/ washing/ cleaning etc and who wants to see those?!
But we escaped the chores yesterday and headed to Cornwall and had a beautiful day - sun, sea, food, wine, beach, sunsets and some very good, old chums - it made for some rather more appealing shots so here you go......

An Eggscellent Activity....
Its pouring with rain outside plus I am knackered so today is all about indoor fun - well, in this case, fun and delegation….. this is a Montessori activity designed to teach fine motor skills, purposeful activity and concentration but the bit I like most is that your feet are up with a cuppa while you exploit child labour! Drinking the cappuccino while it's hot is so rare the inevitable mess was totally worth it…….
Let your child prepare their own lunch - peeling eggs, spreading crackers and chopping fruit. Lenny took a while to get the egg peeing bit preferring to tip them from bowl to bowl but once he gave it a go he did concentrate and try to be gentle with the shell but more often than not greed got the better of him and he ripped it apart and shoved it in his mouth like a starved beast! Likewise with the crackers he started off spreading carefully but soon realised that you could scoop the fruit spread straight into the mouth with the knife bypassing the cracker completely. Chopping fruit I think would have been great with a banana or strawberries but alas we only had oranges in the house so he stabbed the unpeeled one with great satisfaction ignoring the one I had peeled in preparation. All this said it was fun, free (well, using food you have in the house) and super easy - and who knows if we keep at it perhaps I will end up with a culinary genius?!?
Off to Cornwall this weekend so rain rain go away!!!!!!!!
Hope you have fun……

URGH.
Today started at 5.15am after 4 hours of broken sleep - I should have known the tone for the rest of the day was going to be bad. A collection of seemingly small hiccups combined to make me not only in a foul mood but with baby hormones rushing all over the place it was over wrought and tearful to boot….. splitting headache, ears pulsating with rage over yet another phone call to Vodafone Customer Service, a spilt can of tomatoes all over my new t shirt, Maurice screaming for no reason for over an hour, Lenny insisting on re stacking the cereal aisle of the co op, the librarian tutting at me over a ripped book (that I paid for I may add)…… yadda yadda yadda you get the picture.
SO - kids in bed, large glass of Malbec poured and on with some music. Here is the playlist to calm down and remember tomorrow is another day *
* I need to add a disclaimer to this post. I am by no stretch of the imagination a muso (youth word for geeky modern music buffs) but I have spent the last 6 months taking myself in hand as even I thought Alanis Morisette and the Counting Crows were sounding a tad dated (still great though!!) So these bands/ artists are some of my new discoveries - if you listen to any of them you will note I am a fan of the warbling folky sound that borders on the depressing….. if you have any recommendations shout!
